How to liven up a blank wall without drilling or renovations

Jak ożywić pustą ścianę bez wiercenia i remontu PROPORTO

A blank wall in the living room is something that eventually starts to bother you. You can hang a painting, you can paint one section a different color, but there is one more solution that is talked about less often - wooden wall panels.

In this post, I show how it looks in my home: from unboxing the set and installation to the final effect.

Why panels instead of a painting or wallpaper?

A painting is one fixed element—it always looks the same until you take it down. Wallpaper, on the other hand, is a lot of work whenever you change your mind. Modular panels work differently—they are individual pieces that you combine into any pattern, and if you get bored, you simply rearrange them.

PROPORTO panels are made of solid beech wood, so in addition to the pattern itself, there is also the natural texture and scent of the wood—something no wallpaper can replicate.

Step-by-step installation

There are two base mounting options - I am choosing the one that fits my wall and my preferences.

Installation with self-adhesive tape

The simplest way: I peel off the tape backing, place the base against the wall, and press firmly for a few seconds. The base holds securely.

Installation with screws

If I am installing on an uneven wall, e.g., brick, textured plaster, or a damaged surface, screw mounting works better. The base has pre-made holes, so you just need to place it against the wall, mark the points, drill, and secure it with the screws included in the kit.

Arranging the pattern - this is where the fun begins

Once the base is installed, I attach the panels to it magnetically. This is the most important part of the whole system—I can rearrange, rotate, and combine them into different compositions at will, without peeling off or re-installing the base.

Tired of one layout? It only takes a moment to create a brand-new pattern on the same wall.

Final effect

This is what the wall looks like after installing the panels—natural wood, a clear texture, and a pattern that I can change at any time.

Where will it work best?

PROPORTO wall panels look good in a few typical places:

Living room - as an accent behind the TV, sofa, or audio equipment

Bedroom - above the bed, instead of a traditional headboard

Home office/study - as a background that adds character to the workspace

Home office inspiration - laptop on a desk against a backdrop of geometric wooden panels.

Summary

Modular panels are a way to decorate a wall that doesn't require renovation, while at the same time giving much more freedom than a classic painting or wallpaper. Installation took me a few minutes, and I can change the effect as often as I want.
